Indian meal moth

The Indian meal moth (Plodia interpunctella) larvae is a common grain-feeding pest found around the world, consuming cereals, fruits, and similar products. The larvae of this species have the ability to bite through plastic and cardboard so even sealed containers may be infested. Once found, the moths are difficult to eradicate. The last instar larvae is also able to travel long distances before pupating; so an infestation site may be located far from the nearest pupation site. In addition to food sources, this species can reproduce and pupate on clothing and any source of clothing must be inspected to prevent infestation. The moth lives in a wide range of conditions, making it a persistent pest. It is often found at food storage facilities worldwide, specifically in grain bins or grain storage buildings.

Rice moth

The Rice Moth (Corcyra cephalonica) has a pale, buff-brown color which is uniform and features no distinctive markings, the veins may appear darkened and the hind wings are almost translucent. It has a 15-25mm wingspan. Rice moth live warm climate but in temperate areas it can survive all year in heated stores. It is a major pest of stored foods and favors grains, particularly rice. They are common in flour mills but can be seen in all types of stored food areas. Rice moth larvae contaminate food by producing large amounts of strong webbing and frass. This can bind food together and make foods unsuitable for sale or consumption. Frass from the rice moth can also attract other stored food pests and increase the damage and contamination of the product.
